What ALADIN/SI is
ALADIN/SI is a numerical weather model that ARSO runs twice a day, starting at 00 and 12 UTC. The maps show forecast cloud cover and precipitation up to 72 hours ahead.
How to read the map
Use the slider to choose a forecast time. The day and hour the map is valid for, and the model run time, are shown below it.
A new run becomes available a few hours after it starts. Until it has fully downloaded, the previous run is shown.
Limitations
A model is a calculation, not a measurement. Individual showers and storms may appear in a different place or at a different time than shown. For the next hour, the radar is more reliable.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn’t the map match the radar?
The radar shows measured precipitation; the model shows a calculated forecast. Differences are expected, especially with thunderstorms.
How far ahead does it go?
Up to 72 hours after the start of the model run.
